You've seen them. Those striking, Instagram-worthy indigo and white patterns adorning home decor and clothing. Come spend the evening playing with Shibori, the traditional Japanese art of resist dyeing!
Guided by Textile Designer/Artist Kathy Barlow, in this workshop, you'll create your own 18" x 18" cotton throw pillow cover and a lovely 11" x 60" silk scarf! Tote bags and blank cotton yardage will be available to those who have taken class before, and extra pillow covers/scarves will be available for purchase as time allows for dyeing more items.
You'll learn how to accomplish a variety of Shibori techniques including:
- Folding & clamping
- Pole Wrapping
You'll become familiar with traditional Shibori patterns and begin to spark your own creative interpretations.
You'll learn how to choose and prepare fabrics and dyes, what strings, cords and bands to use for bound and stitched techniques, and the best materials to use for clamped resists. You'll take home printed instructions including a materials list with local and online supplies sources.
No experience is necessary! Come join us for color, pattern and creative camaraderie! Teens ages 16+ are welcome to attend.
